Cillia and Flagella (cell biology)

CILIA AND FLAGELLA

1. Cilia and flagella are hair - like extensions from the cell surface that produce movement and both are extensions of the cell membrane and contain. a cytoplasmic matrix with 9 + 2 arrangement of microtubules.

2. The nine microtubule doublets are arranged around two singlet microtubules in the center.

3. Flagella of bacteria do not show 9 +2 arrangement.

4. The diameters of both cilia and flagella are less than 0.5 uni.  bu $.  The pattern of organization of cilia and flagella is 9 + 2 instead of 9 + 0 as in centriole.  16. Microtubules are associated with cilia and flagella.

7. The principal protein of cilia and flagella is tubulin.

Cilia Flagella

1. Cilia are numerous Flagella are few and long and short

2. Cilia have an average Flagella are as long length as 150 um to 510 um

3. Cilia beat together Flagella beat independently
